Children diagnosed with cancer cruise to the Texas Capitol in style

The special police escort was made possible by the Sunshine Kids Foundation, which helps children with cancer.

AUSTIN, Texas — On Wednesday, a special event was held in Austin for more than two dozen kids who are battling cancer.

At the Cruise to the Capitol, the kids got to ride along in fancy sports cars accompanied by police escorts.

Wednesday's ride started the morning in San Marcos and ended in Downtown Austin. It was made possible through the nonprofit Sunshine Kids, which is dedicated to helping children with cancer.

"You wouldn't believe the kids' faces when they walked out and saw the incredible muscle cars that they had the opportunity to choose from, and then to have the chance to have the whole highway shut down just for them so they could have their police escort and ride to the Capitol. It was a once-in-a-lifetime morning for the kids," Sunshine Kids Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Wisler said.

The kids went on to receive a special tour and lunch at the Texas Capitol.
