AUSTIN, Texas — With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, one of the most well-known symbols of Christmas took center stage at the Long Center on Saturday.
Kids took free photos with Santa in his sleigh, along with Mrs. Claus, at the annual Santa on the Terrace event.
“It puts me in the Christmas spirit, for sure,” said Dallas Tate, an event producer at the Long Center.
Tate added, “I know Santa’s agent, and they’re very happy to send him to us every year.”
Saturday’s event drew more than 2,000 people.
Organizers added a food truck and other elements to help make the wait for photos a little more fun.
“HEB is out giving out some treats and letters to Santa, Baylor Scott and White’s got some fun toys for the kids … there’s a bar,” said Tate. “We try and give you things to do in the line while you wait for Santa.”
This is the first of several holiday events happening at the Long Center. On Friday, Dec. 6, they’ll begin hosting the 62nd annual production of The Nutcracker by Ballet Austin.
