AUSTIN — Amazon announced a new HQ 2 and said they'd invest $5 billion in it's home city.
With the prospect of nearly 50,000 employees coming along with the headquarters, cities across the country have been competing for the tech giant's attention.
The competition got tenser Tuesday as Maryland State Legislators passed an incentive package - totaling nearly $8.5 billion in perks.
Texas has two cities in the running: Austin and Dallas. While neither city has publicly announced any financial incentives, Governor Greg Abbott said the state will work with Amazon, should the company choose either Lone Star city.
"In addition to the fabulous set up already in Austin, it has the type and quality of workers that Amazon is looking for...If you look at the tax structure, the government structure, everything that Amazon is seeking, Texas and Austin has," Gov. Abbott said in an interview with KVUE in late March.
Amazon has said they plan to make a decision by the end of 2018.
