AUSTIN, Texas — Another Austin restaurant is permanently closing its doors. On Sunday, employees at Lucy's Fried Chicken's Burnet Road location served their last meals.
According to KVUE's media partners at Austin360, staffing is part of the reason why the owner had to permanently close the Burnet location.
"I wish I had more insight, but it all comes down to staffing," owner James Holmes told Austin360. "I can’t find staff to stay open seven days a week, therefore I can’t justify re-signing the lease."
Austing360 reports that Holmes opened the original Lucy's Fried Chicken location off South Congress Avenue in 2011 and expanded to Burnet in 2013. The Burnet location is the second that Holmes has had to shutter since the COVID-19 pandemic started. The Lakeway location closed in spring 2020.
According to Austin360, Lucy's Fried Chicken opened its Cedar Park location, which remains open, in 2019. The original location off South Congress also remains open, and several SXSW 2022 performances are scheduled to take place there from March 16 through March 20.
