Keep Austin Local: Brown’s Bar-B-Que

Try this Texas barbecue while supporting local.

AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.

On Monday, KVUE stopped by Brown’s Bar-B-Que on South Lamar. The local spot started in 2008 selling sandwiches outside of Barton Springs Saloon. The trailer has been open since 2012 and is located at 1901 South Lamar Blvd.

Brown’s Bar-B-Que is a family-owned business. Daniel Brown started it, and his daughter, Amaris, runs the trailer. They’re long-time Austinites and their family members help run the food trailer.

Brown’s Bar-B-Que is known for its brisket, which cooks for 21 hours. They also sell pork ribs, turkey meat, sausage, and sides like cabbage, bacon mac ‘n’ cheese and coleslaw.

The family uses firewood from their land south of Austin to cook their meat. They pride themselves in making real, Texas barbeque that is consistent.

Every Sunday they have a special with Corner Bar from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. where if patrons spend $15 at the bar, they can get a free plate with one meat and two sides.

You can find Brown’s Bar-B-Que at 1901 South Lamar or online here
