AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting the local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.
On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Hideout Theatre, a spot in downtown that has been around since 1999.
Hideout Theatre specializes in improvisational theater and has the longest running improv show in Austin. They have many different types of improv that audiences can enjoy including short form, long form and narrative.
The theatre shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic from March 2020 to mid-October 2021. They made the decision to do online shows through Twitch while they couldn’t do in-person performances.
Before the pandemic they had 12 shows each week being performed. They are slowly adding live shows back into the theatre including a student showcase, "Parallelogramophonograph," "Bras Off," ColdTowne Theater’s "Stool Pigeon," and "The Quest."
The theatre also offers improv classes for both adults and children.
You can find Hideout Theatre at 617 Congress Avenue or online here.
