AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.
On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Reale’s Pizza and Cafe, an Italian restaurant in North Austin owned by father and son, Bob and Gino Reale. The restaurant has been around for 35 years. When they first opened, it was just the family: Bob, his wife, Marie, and their kids.
As Gino says in the "about section" on the restaurant's website, “With my father’s business sense, my mother’s family recipes, employees that can’t call in sick, (my brothers and sister) and the ‘Inspiration of Desperation’ as my dad puts it, we took a deep breath and proceeded to open doors.”
He added that the common denominator for them has always been the family.

If you stop by, you’ll likely see Bob Reale walking from table to table to greet people and welcome them to the restaurant.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused them to close their dining room and pivot to to-go items only. The owners told KVUE their customers were a support system for them throughout 2020.
Bob Reale said they moved to Texas in 1975 and decided to open up a pizzeria in 1981. The recipes feature dishes passed down from his and his late wife’s family.
The restaurant is known for authentic Italian dishes including lobster tail, pork chops, Italian-style linguine and New York style pizza. There’s live music Monday through Thursday.
You can find Reale’s Pizza and Café at 13450 Research Blvd. Ste. 230, or online here.
