AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texans have seen many businesses shutting down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. KVUE wants to help "Keep Austin Local" by highlighting small businesses that might need a little help.
On Friday, KVUE stopped by Sala & Betty, a family-owned restaurant that has been around since 2005.
The chef, Theresa, and her sister would play “kitchen” when they were little girls. Eventually, they had the nicknames Sala and Betty, where the idea for the restaurant's name came from. Today, many of the menu items have names in honor of their family members.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused sales and profits to go down and encouraged the staff to get creative with how they do business. The restaurant already had a drive-thru, which was helpful.

The restaurant currently only has patio dining available, and it has brunch available on Saturdays.
"We feel fortunate in a lot of ways because we have always had great support from the community. And, boy, they rallied and have been committed to helping us get through this rough ride," the restaurant told KVUE. "And for that, we are truly grateful."
