AUSTIN, Texas — Another big tech company will be moving its headquarters from California to Austin.
Document and data capturing and processing company ABBYY said it will be joining other companies such as Google, Apple and Tesla in Central Texas.
It comes as the company focuses on investing in AI.
ABBYY is an American company, but it was founded in the former USSR in 1989 and developed in Russia. In 2022, the company left Russia and Belarus and filed for the liquidation of its Russian legal entities. Since then, its headquarters has been located in Milipitas, California, just north of San Jose.
“ABBYY has empowered thousands of organizations worldwide to digitally transform their business with purpose-built AI for intelligent automation. As a leader, we are constantly transforming and trying to improve ourselves,” said CEO Ulf Persson in a press release on Thursday.
Persson said the company’s product leadership team is already in Austin, which he called “the heart of a growing tech ecosystem.”
“Together with our development centers in the U.S., India and Hungary, we’re tapping into top global talent in AI, machine learning and product development to drive our next phase of growth and innovation,” Persson said.
ABBYY said its Milipitas office will remain open. No California employees will be asked to relocate, according to the SFGate. That office will focus on sales, marketing and operations.
“Our move to Austin represents a significant milestone in ABBYY’s transformation,” said Patrick “PJ” Jean, chief technology and product officer at ABBYY. “By bringing our product teams closer to our leadership, we will be fostering the collaboration that strengthens our innovation and delivery of AI-driven solutions, ensuring our products continue to lead the market in intelligent automation.”
