AUSTIN, Texas — Tech company Accenture is going through more layoffs in Austin.
A notice from the Texas Workforce Commissions says in December, Accenture plans to lay off 351 workers.
The company has already laid off hundreds of other workers in two other rounds of layoffs – in May and June this year. The June layoffs affected 218 employees who were working at a facility near The Domain, while the layoffs in May affected more than 500 employees at the same facility.
According to the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Accenture employs several thousand workers in Austin.
An Accenture spokesperson released a statement, saying, “From time to time, we adjust our workforce on ongoing projects to meet the needs of our clients. We are fully committed to supporting our people through this transition.”
During layoffs in June, the company said it was focusing on investing in artificial intelligence.
Accenture plans to use AI as a way to help clients across all industries. Accenture CEO Julie Sweet said that because technology is "changing rapidly" she wants Accenture to use AI to help clients navigate their complex environments "quickly and cost effectively to make smart decisions."
According to Accenture, a $3 billion investment into AI will take place over three years.
According to CNN, Accenture plans to cut 2.5% of its workforce over the next 18 months, amounting to $1.2 billion in severance costs.
