AUSTIN, Texas — Retailers and restaurants might want to start weighing their options for expanding at Austin's airport.
According to a report from the Austin Business Journal, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is working to build a second concourse with at least 10 more gates over the news few years.
Planning documents note a "Concourse B" project, which is expected to bring about 19,000 square feet of new food, beverage and retail space.
An airport spokesperson told the ABJ that the airport plans to finalize details for the commercial portion of the concourse later this year. Then, more information will be available in 2023.
“All of this is highly dependent on what the airlines are committed to in terms of gate count, and my team will work around that,” Airport Chief Business and Finance Officer Mukesh Patel wrote in an email to ABJ.
Patel said he plans to issue a request for proposal in late 2025, with the new course slated to open in 2028. However, he noted that this timeline is fluid.
According to the report, developers are looking into ideas such as a ghost kitchen, a brewery, a wine bar, a distillery, a quick-service burger restaurant and a barbeque joint in the new concourse.
