AUSTIN, Texas — "Restaurant Row" on Barton Springs Road is losing a little piece of Austin history after Baby Acapulco closed its door for good.

The Austin restaurant has been serving drinks and Tex-Mex for more than 40 years.

Two locations still remain open in Austin. One spot is in far northwest Austin on Stonelake Boulevard while the other is south of the lake and east of I-35 on Lakeshore Boulevard.

It's not the first "Old Austin" restaurant to close on Barton Springs. Shady Grove closed in May of 2020.

Chuy's still has its original location on Restaurant Row, but the company and all of its locations were purchased by Orlando-based Darden Restaurants in July.

Baby Acapulco or "Baby A's" is known in Austin for its Purple Margarita, a frozen cocktail that only shares tequila as a common ingredient with the traditional margarita.

The Purple Rita is so strong that the patrons are only allowed to order two per visit. The recipe has remained a secret for the past 40 years.
