Colony Park District Park opens in East Austin

Austin City Council members approved construction on the park back in 2014.

AUSTIN, Texas — There's a new park open in East Austin!

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Colony Park District Park was held Saturday morning.

Austin City Council members approved construction on the park back in 2014. Now it's finally ready for local families to enjoy.

Barbara Scott, the president of the Colony Park/Lakeside Neighborhood Association, said the community has needed this park for a long time.

"We are just so grateful that we can look back here and see our children have somewhere to play," Scott said. "We don't have to go across [U.S.] 183 anymore to find a swing."

The park features a 10,000-square-foot play area, two picnic pavilions with grills, an athletic field and a walking trail.
