AUSTIN, Texas — Uncle Billy's Brewery & Smokehouse is moving to Dripping Springs – but Austin-based cider lovers should be pleased with what's taking its place on Barton Springs Road.
According to our partners at Austin360, Austin Eastciders will open a second local tasting room at the former Uncle Billy's space at 1530 Barton Springs Road in South Austin.
“We don’t have any details to share yet, but we’re super excited to create a new Eastciders experience and become a part of the wonderful community of Zilker and Barton Springs Road,” Dave Rule, vice president of marketing at Eastciders, said in a statement provided to Austin360.

Eastciders recently surpassed Angry Orchard as the No. 1 cider in Texas grocery stores, according to Austin360. The company already has one tasting room called The Collaboratory, located at 979 Springdale Road in East Austin.
Last week, Uncle Billy's announced on Facebook that their Barton Springs Road location is now closed and they will be relocating to Dripping Springs. The company said they're excited to relocate and plan to move to their new location over the next few weeks. They said the move will allow them to expand the production of Uncle Billy’s Spirits and increase distribution through the Republic National Distributing Company.
This isn't the first time this year that a cidery has swooped in to save an empty building. Dallas-based Bishop Cidercade – a tasting room and arcade bar combo – said in June that they will take over the former Joe's Crab Shack location at 600 East Riverside Drive, overlooking Lady Bird Lake.
