AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is looking to move forward with a plan to provide affordable housing to teachers and staff.
Currently, the district is looking to repurpose the Anita Ferrales Coy Facility in East Austin into 500 new housing units, which would be available to teachers, staff and their families.
Additionally, the district said it will use revenue generated from the new site to build a new facility for the Alternative Learning Center, which currently sits at the location.
The Anita Ferrales Coy Facility sits on an almost 20-acre site near Boggy Creek in East Austin, bordered by Mansell Avenue, Gonzales Street and Shady Lane. The facility features a main building, athletics fields and outdoor play areas.
Austin ISD said it is still in the process drafting a proposal, which should be ready later this month. The district will then work to get proposals for development and subsequently recommend a development partner sometime in the fall, so that work on the project can proceed.
