BASTROP, Texas — One home developer got the green light to start work on building hundreds of new homes in Bastrop.
On Tuesday night, the City Council unanimously approved an agreement with D.R. Horton. That group would build houses, parks and offices on 400 acres of land off of FM 969, just north of State Highway 71, west of Downtown Bastrop.
Council documents show a concept plan for the “Viridian” development that includes 265 acres of single-family homes, 88 acres of open and park space, 12 acres of commercial space and 35 acres for rights of way.
According to the agreement, the City and developer have established a community type that would meet the intention of future annexation when financially viable for the City.
The move comes after Bastrop City Council approved the Bastrop 552 development, a filmmaking studio that will also include lodging, restaurants, event spaces and recreational facilities.
Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has also purchased more land for development in Bastrop, it was revealed this month. Gapped Bass LLC purchased 73 acres of land in northwest Bastrop in May, according to a report from the Austin Business Journal. The entity is tied to top executives at The Boring Company and the address listed in multiple state filings for its Pflugerville warehouse.
There is no word yet on when construction could start.
