CEDAR PARK, Texas — Crews are now working on a new $30 million public safety training facility in Cedar Park.
City leaders hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday morning for the Public Safety Joint Training Facility.
It will have facilities for police, firefighters and emergency management personnel, including classrooms, an emergency operations center, fitness rooms and specialized training spaces. First responders will be able to train together to improve their preparedness and coordinated response capabilities.
Chief of Police Mike Harmon said, "The Public Safety Joint Training Facility is a game-changer for our department and the community we serve. By enhancing collaboration and providing cutting-edge training, we ensure that our first responders are equipped to handle any situation efficiently and confidently. This investment in our personnel directly translates to a safer, more resilient community."
Money to build it comes from a bond package voters approved in 2022. Construction is expected to be finished in the spring of 2026.
The center will be located at 1200-1204 Fire Lane, adjacent to the existing Fire Training Tower.
“The Cedar Park Fire Department looks forward to completing the new Public Safety Joint Training Facility. The facility will allow for seamless classroom instruction and the ability to practice skills immediately," Fire Chief James Mallinger said. "The facility will also bring all public safety training together on one site, improving cross-training and response."
