City council expected to approve funds for East Austin affordable housing complex

The complex would be located at or near 2001 Rosewood Ave.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin City Council on Thursday is expected to move forward with plans for an affordable housing complex in East Austin.

According to an item on Thursday's agenda, the council is expected to approve a resolution consenting to up to $30 million in bonds to finance, in part, the construction of a new affordable rental development.

The building would be located at or near 2001 Rosewood Avenue in East Austin and would include about 184 apartments.

Affordability and available housing are ongoing issues in Austin. Earlier this week, new data showed rent increases in every Austin City Council district.

Last month, Austin's demographer told KVUE that while income has gone up by 44% in the last 10 years, rent and housing prices are rising at a much faster rate.
