AUSTIN, Texas — Downtown Austin continues to boom with crews working on more than a dozen construction projects in the area.
One of the biggest is the Texas Capitol Complex project which has been in the works for years.
Phase one included new office buildings and parking for state employees, and now, phase two is underway.
"Phase two includes two buildings, the Lavaca building at the corner of 15th and Lavaca [Street] and then the Congress building," said Texas Facilities Commission spokesperson, Francoise Luca.
Once it's complete, the complex will house staff for state departments like the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Attorney General's office.
"In a month you will see you see this building come out from the ground," Luca said. "We have completed the underground parking and now we're building up."
However, the Texas Capitol Complex is just one of 14 projects going on downtown right now.
"Downtown is steadily growing in its development ... It’s a pretty big one, it’s been going on for some time now. The Frank Erwin redevelopment that is under construction," said Jenell Moffett, Chief Impact Officer, Downtown Austin Alliance.
According to Moffett, the other projects include 11 high rises going up. She also discussed what's next as the city moves forward with more developments.
"What people like about Austin is that uniqueness, the creativity, the music, art, the culture," Moffett said. "I think absent of any particular strategy to retain that is, what us as leaders, we don't forget about."
The Capitol Complex project hopes to have phase two done by fall 2027.
