Plans to build what would've been one of Austin's largest towers appear to fall through

All options are on the table for the future of the development.

AUSTIN, Texas — Plans to build a massive hotel and condo in Downtown Austin appear to be up in the air.

What was expected to be the Conrad Austin Hotel and Conrad Residences Austin condos won't continue as originally planned.

According to KVUE's partners at the Austin American-Statesman, real estate firm CBRE is listing the entire block for sale along with portions of it.

Last year, developer Intracorp announced plans to build the first Conrad Hotel in Texas along East Second and Trinity streets. Construction on the 65-story hotel was expected to begin in late 2022, which at the time, would have been the second-tallest building in Austin.

The entire project was expected to have more than 300 rooms, including 136 luxury condominiums, along with restaurants and retail space.

The site is expected to be a hot commodity given the plans to redevelop the Austin Convention Center, which experts say will help boost downtown foot traffic.
