LEANDER, Texas — Austin is booming, and with that exponential growth comes overflow to the city's many suburbs.
One of those is Leander, which Homes.com recently named No. 5 on its list of best U.S. suburbs to move to in 2021.
According to the report, remote work that has come over the past year amid the pandemic has drastically changed the way many Americans are making homebuying and rental decisions. It states the options of working from home and the elimination of long commutes have prompted mass migration away from larger metropolitan areas and into smaller surrounding suburbs, where overall costs of living are generally more accessible.
Homes.com wanted to analyze this shift in consumer behavior, compiling its list using U.S. Census data. The cities were then ranked against a set of homebuying criteria, such as the crime index, diversity levels, median listing prices, yard sizes, school district scores and more.
The top 20 suburbs were:
- Westfield, Indiana
- Forney, Texas
- Woodstock, Georgia
- Yorkville, Indiana
- Leander, Texas
- Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina
- Little Elm, Texas
- Oswego, Illinois
- Erie, Colorado
- Queen Creek, Arizona
- Lenexa, Kansas
- Windsor, Colorado
