AUSTIN, Texas — Here's something to brag about, Austinites: U.S. News and World Report has named Austin the best place to live in America for the third year in a row!
The publication analyzed the 125 most populous metro areas to find the best places to live. According to them, to make the top of the list, a place had to have "good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life."
Austin has maintained its No. 1 spot on the list since it surpassed Denver in 2017.
U.S. News and World Report considered five main indexes – desirability, job market, value, quality of life and net migration – and graded them on a 10-point scale to compile the list. Austin ranked high for desirability and net migration, but lower on value, which measured incomes and affordability.
The Capital City received an overall 7.6 score out of 10, with U.S. News and World Report saying people are drawn to Austin because of its "music, outdoor spaces and cultural institutions."
The rest of the top 10 best cities were: Denver, CO; Colorado Springs, CO; Fayetteville, AR; Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and Raleigh & Durham, NC.
Other Texas cities that made the list were: Dallas-Fort Worth (21); Houston (30); San Antonio (34); Killeen (101); Corpus Christi (105); Beaumont (108); El Paso (110); McAllen (112); and Brownsville (116).
