AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texas could soon land another major manufacturing business.
According to the Austin Business Journal, computer chip giant Micron is scouting Caldwell and Williamson counties for it's next fabrication plant.
The report states the company is also considering a location in North Carolina.
If Central Texas is chosen, the investment could be worth an estimated $40 billion, with 5,000 to 10,000 new jobs created once it's up and running.
Another tech giant, Samsung, in November announced that it selected Taylor, Texas, for a chip facility of its own. That facility, which will produce advanced logic chips that power devices for applications such as mobile, 5G, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, is expected to create more than 2,000 high-tech jobs, thousands of other indirect jobs and a minimum of 6,500 construction jobs.
