AUSTIN, Texas — Elon Musk’s business footprint in Central Texas keeps expanding. The tech entrepreneur’s Neuralink, a company dedicated to helping paralyzed patients better connect with technology by using brain implants, posted five new job openings in Austin this month.
Neuralink is looking to hire an animal care specialist, registered veterinary technician, a veterinarian, an MEP engineer and a “general application” position. The general application position asks applicants who do not see anything posted that fits their skill set to tell the company why they would like to be part of Neuralink and what type of job would be the right fit.
The job postings come after rumors Musk was working on plans to expand the company into the Austin area. The company started seeking out Austin engineers last fall and recently announced plans to search for a head of construction.
No location has been released yet.
It’s no surprise the company is looking for animal care specialists, as recent videos have showcased the importance of monkeys and pigs as an aspect of Neuralink’s research and development.
A Neuralink video from earlier this month featured Pager the Macaque playing the video game “Pong” with his mind, using a brain implant.
Pigs Joyce, Gertrude and Dorothy were part of the company’s live demo event last year. The pigs demonstrated the implant’s ability to transmit brain recordings to a computer in real-time while the brain’s owner – the pig – freely moved around and interacted with the world.
