AUSTIN, Texas — On Wednesday morning, the Nutty Brown H-E-B officially opened its doors to the public.
Construction began in April 2022 on the new 103,000-square-foot store, which is located on where the Nutty Brown Café and Amphitheatre once stood, on US 290 near Nutty Brown Road.
According to H-E-B, the new store incorporates building materials from the Nutty Brown Café and Amphitheatre and showcases memorabilia from the venue, including signed guitars from musicians who played there and a tribute wall mural that includes vintage photography chronicling the history of the site. The store also features "colorful iconography inspired by original signage such as the blue 'Welcome' awning and the Cowboy neon sign.
"It means a lot to me that H-E-B cares enough about the history at Nutty Brown and plans to pay homage to it in some way," Mike Farr, owner of the Nutty Brown Café and Amphitheatre, said in April 2022. "I value the way H-E-B has treated me and my business over the last several years. They’ve been amazing partners to work with. I live a few miles down the road, and it’s a surreal concept to think that a place I’ve walked into and owned for two decades is now where I’m going to buy milk and bread. But I’m excited to see it and excited to be a part of it."
The Nutty Brown Café and Amphitheatre officially closed in November 2021 after more than 20 years of live music. Farr now runs the Round Rock Amphitheater, located at the former McNeil Park in Round Rock.
