GEORGETOWN, Texas — Williamson County could see an increase of 1.5 million people by 2060, according to projections from the Texas Demographic Center.
Each year, the Texas Demographic Center is required by the State to put together a report that analyzes county growth and future population estimates.
"We look at net migration between 2010 and 2020, and then project that migration pattern into future," said Helen You, the associate director of the Texas Demographic Center.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Williamson County currently has a population of over 670,000. In the span of just a year, the county has seen its population grow by nearly 27,000.
Cities like Georgetown are contributing to those numbers. The city was recently ranked as the fastest growing city in the state with a 14% growth, as well as the fastest growing city in the southern U.S.
Ally Johnson is a resident of Williamson County. She said she has noticed the rapid growth.
"I actually like there are people coming from all over. I like it bringing in people from other states. But I don't know where all these people are going to go,” Johnson said.
Other Central Texas counties could also see considerable growth in the future. The Texas Demographic Center projects both Travis and Hays counties could see population increases between 300,000 and 1 million new residents by 2060.
