AUSTIN, Texas — Road closures are soon to begin across the Downtown Austin area to allow for construction to start on the tallest skyscraper in the skyline.
Developers for the future tallest skyscraper in Austin, the Waterline Tower, have stated that construction will begin soon. In order to begin the construction, Red River Street between East Cesar Chavez and Driskill streets will be closed to install chilled water lines.
The contractor for the project reported that a 20-foot excavation will require segments of pipe to be installed at once, and roads must be closed at times while the trench and machinery will take up the roadway.
The City of Austin has estimated construction to last around 20 weeks, including a full roadway closure in the area to last four weeks.
According to the City, construction will not start until after the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in March. Initially, it was reported that the road closures would occur in January and be completed before SXSW.
