80 new townhomes under construction in Round Rock

The Depot Townhomes will be located south of Bagdad Avenue from Mays Street to Burnet Street.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — The City of Round Rock announced Wednesday that new townhomes are now under construction.

The Depot Townhomes will include 80 townhomes with floorplans ranging from two to four bedrooms. The development will be located south of Bagdad Avenue from Mays Street to Burnet Street.

"Our downtown is the heart of this city," Courtney Ainsworth, a spokesperson for the City of Round Rock, said Thursday. "We think it'll be a game changer for downtown. It's just a catalyst for, you know, more businesses, more folks coming downtown, and maybe they hadn't considered moving downtown before, and now they do."

The units will span from 1,300 to 2,800 square feet and will offer 12-foot ceilings and hardwood floors, according to the City. Several of the units will have a residential space upstairs and office space downstairs and, according to plans, many will offer rooftop decks.

The City said the development will take place in phases. The first phase, which consists of 23 units, is expected to be complete in approximately one year. The Depot Townhomes will be one block off Main Street in downtown Round Rock, but Ainsworth believes the diversified housing approach will positively impact all of "main street" Round Rock, meaning all of downtown.

"Our businesses, in large part, are very excited to have more housing right downtown," Ainsworth said. "You know, our residents already love to be able to walk and get coffee in the morning, you know, come get a beer at night and walk home. So just diversifying the housing options that we have in downtown is a huge win."

The site being developed into The Depot Townhomes was previously home to Builders Gypsum Supply.
