Tesla and SpaceX's Elon Musk appears to be, yet again, expanding his horizons in the Austin area.
According to a job listing, SpaceX is "now breaking ground on a new, state of the art manufacturing facility in Austin," and it's looking to fill the role of automation and controls engineer in town.
The role is for the Starlink division of the company, which is working on a global broadband internet system. The listing states Starlink will "provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable."
This role will play a key role in helping SpaceX manufacture millions of consumer-facing devices that will be shipped directly to consumers.
"Specifically, they will design and develop control systems and software for production line machinery – ultimately tackling the toughest mechanical, software, and electrical challenges that come with high volume manufacturing, all while maintaining a focus on flexibility, reliability, maintainability, and ease of use," the listing states.
The company has also posted a listing for an assembly and packing equipment engineer in Austin.
SpaceX will join a growing list of endeavors linked to Musk in the Austin area, including:
- the Tesla Gigafactory in Del Valle
- the Boring Company in Pflugerville
- Neuralink, which recently posted job listings in Austin
