Stubb's Bar-B-Q general manager taking over Beerland lease

Ryan Garrett, the GM of Stubb's Bar-B-Q, said details are still being ironed out but the bar's name will stay the same.

AUSTIN, Texas — The general manager of Stubb's Bar-B-Q is officially taking over the lease for Beerland, which sits at 711 1/2 Red River Street, just down from Stubb's.

Ryan Garrett, Stubb's GM, confirmed to KVUE that the lease will be long-term, and he is hoping Beerland will be back open sometime before Thanksgiving.

"It’s tremendously important. You know, I’ve operated this stuff now for the past 19 years but Stubb’s would be compromised if it wasn’t for neighbors like Mohawk and Cheer Up Charlie’s and Beerland," Garrett said. “So it's good to see places that have closed reopen, and the Red River Cultural District could use some revitalization."

Garrett said the name will stay the same.

"Beerland is Beerland for years and years to come," Garrett said. "Beerland has operated down there for 17-plus years, and it's in the heart of the greatest live music district in the world."

The exact details of the lease are still being ironed out, according to Garrett.

"But the terms and conditions we have in place are, again, for many years to come," Garrett said.

He also said it's important for places like Beerland to stay open.

"It’s a legendary incubator club that, you know – where a lot of bands get their start," Garrett said. "And we need to have venues like that open and operated so I think for all of us in the live music capital of the world, to have Beerland reopen is a win for the live music community."
