TAYLOR, Texas — Parks and trails are a major component of what makes Taylor, Texas, special.
With over 20 athletic fields, splash pads and even a skate park, there's a lot to check out. And the City's Parks and Recreation Department says even more developments are on the way.
"The City of Taylor takes a lot of pride in their lush, green parks and trails," said Tyler Bybee, Taylor's Parks and Recreation director.
Spreading out over eight different parks and bike trails, there's something for everyone – and it's all worth every cent.
"A lot of the money that's coming into town, we're putting back into the parks and quality of life," Bybee said.
Bybee said renovation of Taylor's trails and parks is happening constantly.
"You come downtown and, obviously, you have a lot to do in Downtown Taylor. And these parks are a part of that," Bybee said.
One of those parks is the newly-renovated Heritage Square in historic Downtown Taylor. Completed in 2019, the square has an amphitheater, splash pad and shaded areas for residents to enjoy on a hot day. And if you look right across the street, you'll find the downtown skate park – a hidden gem, according to Bybee.
"This is a one-of-a-kind skate park. So, it is a tourist attraction. We get people from all over and a lot of older skaters because it's a wave park, it's a little easier on the joints and things like that," he said.
Not into skating? Head to Murphy Park for a scenic view by the water. You can also fish or take a walk over the bridge.
Whether you like to hike, ride bikes or play tennis, all of that and more is possible in the small but booming town of Taylor.
