AUSTIN, Texas — A mixed-use project planned for West Sixth Street is set to bring housing, a hotel, restaurants and retail space, including a new location for beloved café and bakery Swedish Hill.
According to a report from KVUE's media partners at the Austin American-Statesman, work is set to kick off early next year on the second phase of Sixth&Blanco, along West Sixth Street in the Old West Austin neighborhood.
The Statesman reports that the demolition of Swedish Hill in the first quarter of the year will mark the beginning of the second phase, which will include a new location for the café and bakery on the ground floor of a new 5-story building. Plans call for 50,000 square feet of retail and restaurants on the building's first and second floors, a hotel on the third flour and private residences on the fourth and fifth floors.
According to the Statesman, the new building will face West Sixth Street and will be bounded on the west by 1122 W. Sixth St. and on the east by the now-closed Z Tejas restaurant.
The first phase of Sixth&Blanco – which consists of shops and restaurants like Clark's Oyster Bar, Pecan Street Cafe, Elle's Boutique, Align Pilates Studio and more – is essentially completed. All of the businesses already located in the development will remain open during Phase 2 of construction.
The Statesman reports that after the existing Swedish Hill location is demolished, a small outpost will open in the first quarter of the year, down the street at 1128 W. Sixth St. The outpost will remain open throughout Phase 2 construction, and a new location will open when the second phase is completed.
