Williamson County has several road projects to try to keep up with growth

The county celebrated the completion of the Corridor C/Sam Houston Avenue project on Monday.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — Williamson County continues to be one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, especially the city of Georgetown.

County leaders are trying to keep up with the growth by building more roadways.

Its newest completion is Corridor C – State Highway 29 bypass. It goes from Patriot Way to SH 29.

"We are on the east side of the Georgetown, which is one of the highest growth areas we have in the county. As the development continues to occur and is occurring, it allows us direct access over [SH] 130 and allows us to connect and keep moving," said Williamson County Commissioner Russ Boles.

Boles said this is not the only big project in the county – $250 million has been approved in TxDOT funding for widening SH 130 starting in 2027.

"Roadway network of SH 130 from Gattis School Road north of Georgetown to where it connects in through I-35, that’s going to add an additional lane in," said Roles. "As we grow, that's going to be important."

The other major project is the East Wilco Highway.

"It’s going to allow us to move traffic between Hutto and Taylor and allow us to continue to move to north of East Williamson County to have access that has not had a good network in the past, ultimately bend back in and joins I-35 at the city of Jarrell," said Boles.

Patrick Tello has lived in Georgetown for 68 years.

“Growth in Georgetown, it’s just unbelievable,” said Tello.

He said new roadways are needed.

"I know it will help the surrounding area, kind of an in-and-out direction," he said.

Other residents KVUE spoke to near Corridor C disagree. They said this will just bring more cars and traffic to the area.

The road officially opens to the public on Dec. 20.
