AUSTIN, Texas — Diesel prices are hitting an all-time high.
According to AAA, the national average is at $5.21. In the state of Texas, the average is just over $5 a gallon. In Austin, at some gas stations, diesel prices are as high $5.19.
"This is the highest I have seen," said truck driver Jose Garcia.
Garcia has been a truck driver for decades. He said the costs are affecting everyone's bottom line.
"It's really hurts everybody," said Garcia.
Edon Featherston is the operations manager for Community Truck Driving School. He's been in the trucking business for 23 years and has not seen prices like this.
"It's the worst I have seen," said Featherston.
He said with the higher fuel costs, trucking companies and owners are charging fuel surcharges to the end user, impacting prices at the grocery stores.
"They have noticed the numbers going up because of the cost of getting it there. It's a two-fold: You have the price going up, and the truck driving shortage still has not went away," said Featherston.
Wisconsin has the lowest diesel fuel costs, averaging $4.88 a gallon. California currently has the highest at $6.43.
