Amazon hiring 1,000 employees for Pflugerville center

According to the Austin Business Journal, the available positions are mostly in picking, packing and shipping roles starting at $15 per hour.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Amazon is looking to hire 1,000 employees ahead of a planned August opening of its 3.8 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Pflugerville.

According to the Austin Business Journal (ABJ), the available positions are mostly in picking, packing and shipping roles starting at $15 per hour with full-time roles eligible for benefits including paid leave, health insurance and 401(k). These employees will work alongside high-tech robotics to ship items to Amazon's distribution centers throughout the country, according to a July 1 news release

The ABJ says the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. and Workforce Solutions Capital Area will host a webinar with Amazon on July 7 at 10 a.m. to answer questions about the application, hiring procedures, benefits and more.

Interested applicants can register at pfdevelopment.com/amazon-jobs.

The Pflugerville Community Development Corp. and Amazon reached an incentives agreement, in which the corporation funded up to $3.8 million for transportation improvements at Farm to Market 685 and Pecan Street, according to the ABJ. Amazon in return committed to invest $250 million for a minimum 820,000-square-foot facility and provide 1,000 full-time jobs over the next decade in Pflugerville.

"This is the largest hiring event in the history of the City of Pflugerville, and we recognize the opportunity it presents for our local residents," PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison said in a statement to the ABJ. "Our partnership with Workforce Solutions Capital Area is invaluable in helping us identify and inform Pflugerville residents regarding the Amazon application process. Following the webinar, the recording will be made available at our website for those who are unable to attend."

According to the ABJ, this fulfillment center will allow Amazon to add to its status as one of the largest employers in the Austin Metro. As of July 2020, Amazon ranked eighth among Austin employers with 4,000 employees, according to the Austin Business Journal research.
