Taylor resident wins $1M from scratch-off lottery ticket

The lottery winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

TAYLOR, Texas — Editor's note: The related video was published in 2019.

Cha-ching! Someone in Central Texas just cashed in and became a millionaire.

A Taylor resident claimed a second-tier prize of $1 million in the Texas Lottery scratch ticket game "Instant Millionaire," officials said Wednesday. The winning scratch-off ticket was bought at M&M Food Mart, located at 100 W. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., in Taylor.

The lottery winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

The Texas Lottery said this was the 28th of 40 second-tier prizes worth $1 million claimed.

In January, the Mega Millions lottery skyrocketed to $1 billion. It was only the third time a lottery jackpot had grown so large, but much has changed since the last time such a big prize was up for grabs in 2018. The odds of winning a jackpot remain the same – incredibly small. But, for a variety of reasons, fewer people are playing Mega Millions or Powerball, the two lottery games offered in most of the country.
