AUSTIN, Texas — As the pandemic continues, KVUE continues to find out who is hiring in our area to help out those in the community looking for work. This week we spoke with the president of Evin's Medical Staffing and the H.R. director of J.W. Marriott Austin.
"There has been so much medical work to be done over the last eight months that we're constantly recruiting," said President of Evins Medical Staffing Jeff Evins.
Evins' mother started the Austin-based company over 53 years ago. Evins said the staffing company fills part-time and full-time positions for health care facilities across the spectrum, from hospitals to skilled nursing facilities.
Evins said licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and nurses' aides are in large demand right now.
"We see a huge need for LVNs right now, especially in the assisted living situations," said Evins.
Evins said LVNs make anywhere from $24 to $35 an hour, with increased pay if they care for COVID-19 patients. He added registered nurses working with COVID-19 patients can make between $35 to $60 an hour depending on their experience level. Apply here if you are interested.
"We see what's out in the market and we're able to give a candidate some options that maybe they won't be able to find on their own," said Evins. "I see a lot of people right now that they just want to pull extra shifts. We are able to help them out."
From the industry that has been overwhelmed by COVID-19 to an industry trying to rebuild – J.W. Marriott hotel in Austin is hiring dozens of staff members.
"Some of the most critical positions that we need to fill are some of our supervisory roles in the food and beverage area," said assistant director of human resources John Trujillo. "Those include both front-of-the-house as well as some of the culinary supervisor positions."
Trujillo said the starting pay for those supervisor positions are around $32,000 a year but that also comes with an opportunity for career growth. Apply here if you are interested.
"When you look at situations like this and the economy is at a low point and hotels are not as busy, those individuals that come in at this time, those typically are the individuals that are going to be seeing the opportunity to be promoted as the industry rebounds," said Trujillo.
The hotel is also hiring gratuity-based positions like baristas and attendants as they continue to develop innovative ways to overcome the pandemic.
