Austin Cave Festival invites public to explore local caves for free

Learn about the critters that call Austin caves home and why they're important to our ecosystem.

AUSTIN, Texas — On Saturday, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will host the Austin Cave Festival as it kicks off its second year running to provide families a chance to tour some of Austin's caves, as well as other hands-on activities.

The event is being hosted along with Austin Watershed, Austin Parks & Recreation, Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer and Austin Wildland Conservation.

Visitors will get to meet cave scientists, explore the La Crosse or Wildflower caves, learn about the animals that call Austin caves home and participate in several other indoor and outdoor activities.

If you plan to go caving, please wear clothing and closed-toe shoes you can get muddy and clean clothes/shoes to change into afterwards. 

There will also be a virtual reality cave from PassmoreVR and an artificial cave from CaveSim with interactive electronic formations, fauna and artifacts.

Austin Cave Festival is free to attend and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, click here.
