Austin man charged with April 2012 murder

An Austin man has been arrested and charged with the death of another man back in April 2012.

AUSTIN -- An Austin man has been arrested and charged with the death of another man back in April 2012.

Austin police say 46-year-old Earl Fansler is the suspect in 44-year-old Phillip Yates' death.

On Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 3:08 p.m., Austin police officers responded to a check welfare call at 6410 Chimney Creek Circle # B. Inside, they found Yates deceased. Police say he was strangled.

For the last nine months, detectives have interviewed witnesses and requested DNA testing. The investigation resulted in Fansler being named the suspect in the case.

Fansler has been charged with murder, a first degree felony. He's in police custody on a $300,000 bond.
