City council resolution would order new audit of sexual assault cases

If approved, the city manager would hire an outside group to evaluate how Austin police investigate and process sexual assault cases.

AUSTIN, Texas — Next week, the Austin City Council will vote on a resolution that would require another investigation into how the Austin Police Department handles sexual assault cases.

If approved, City Manager Spencer Cronk would hire an outside group to evaluate how APD investigates and processes sexual assault cases.

This comes just weeks after an audit by the Texas Department of Public Safety found that APD had wrongly classified 30 of 95 rape cases during a three-month period.
