CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" has a whole new meaning for a family in Chesapeake.
After someone stole money from their lemonade stand, a pair of young entrepreneurs is making a comeback.
Last Wednesday, 10-year-old Rebecca Caldwell and 8-year-old Joshua Caldwell held a lemonade sale in their driveway on Bells Mill Road, as they often do. When their mom stepped inside, surveillance video shows a man pulling up in a car, approaching the children, and then grabbing their jar of money.
The Caldwells say the man acted like he was going to buy some lemonade before driving away with $40 in cash.
But on Saturday, Rebecca and Joshua were back out on their driveway, and they made back that lost $40... and a whole lot more!
Firefighters, police, EMS, and even members of a couple motorcycle groups rolled up to the Caldwell home to buy a cup of lemonade.
Rebecca and Josh's parents estimate more than 600 people total came out to support them on Saturday afternoon. How much did the young entrepreneurs earn? About $6,200!
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation into the original theft. So far, no suspect has been identified.
