MARBLE FALLS, Texas — Music lovers might have a new home in Central Texas.
On Jan. 10, Gov. Greg Abbott officially declared the City of Marble Falls as a "Music Friendly Texas Certified Community," after the city went through a specific process.
"Congratulations to the City of Marble Falls on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation," Abbott said. "Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities certified by the Texas Music Office work hard to attract and develop the local music industry to boost local job creation and economic growth."
At 6 p.m. on Jan. 16, a certification ceremony will be held at the Marble Falls City Hall, 800 3rd St. The certification will be presented by TMO community relations and outreach specialist Chip Adams. The event will be open to the public.
"Embracing the designation as a Music Friendly Texas Community brings an exciting wave of potential to Marble Falls," City Manager Mike Hodge said. "Our city is home to many talented musicians, special music venues and unique music events."
The Music Friendly Texas Community program was introduced as the first of its kind by the Texas Music Office in 2016 with the goal of creating more business focused on music in the state.
Other Central Texas cities have also been awarded this designation. Bastrop became a certified "Music Friendly" city in 2020, and San Marcos was given the same title in 2021.
Going forward, Abbott said he hopes to continue growing this initiative across the state, sharing and honoring more cities each year to come.
