AUSTIN, Texas — Thousands of people in Central Texas spent the weekend supporting artists and small businesses from across the state.
This fall marked the first time The Front Market was held at Waterloo Park in Downtown Austin.
Arts and culture nonprofit Future Front Texas produced the free two-day event on Saturday and Sunday. It showcased more than 175 vendors, a record for the event, with a focus on amplifying women and LGBTQ+ creatives and small business owners.
The Front Market started in 2016 as a small meetup between artists.
“When I think about the growth that we’ve had, I think about how real our mission has become and how when we do get together and support our artists, support creative minds, culture, really connect with the things that remind us why we live here, remind us why we belong, what we’re a part of, I think beautiful things can happen,” said Jane Hervey, founding director of Future Front Texas.
Beyond this weekend, Hervey said people can support local artists and small businesses by shopping with them this holiday season.
“Support local, shop small,” said Hervey. “Those little things, bringing that mindset into your day-to-day life, no matter who you are, makes a huge difference.”
She added, “When you pay attention to the creative small businesses around you, when you actively seek them out, you’re connecting with people. You’re going into public spaces and seeing who lives in your community and getting out of your bubble.”
The Front Market will return in spring 2025.
