Police investigating 3 overnight shootings throughout Austin

The first shooting happened around 3 a.m., while the most recent happened around 6:30 a.m.

AUSTIN, Texas — Overnight in Austin, there were three separate shootings.

The first shooting happened around 3 a.m. Saturday at Interstate 35 and 7th Street. Three patients were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said those suspects are in custody.

The second shooting happened near Longview and 25th Streets, near West Campus, at around 5:20 a.m. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The third occurred at around 6:30 a.m. at the Denny's at I-35 and Saint Johns Avenue in North Austin.

APD Sergeant Charles Rohre said in a press conference Saturday morning that there was a disturbance between a customer and one of the Denny's employees. The customer tried to leave without completing a transaction and there was a physical altercation during which the customer pulled out a gun and fired several shots, some of which hit the victim.

The victim was transported to the hospital in non-life threatening condition. He had to have surgery but is expected to recover.

Police have a description of the suspect in the third shooting and of their vehicle. That information is being turned over to APD's investigative unit for follow-up. Police also said there were several witnesses to the incident, and investigators have access to security camera footage.

Police do not believe the three shootings are related.
