After police broke up a cockfighting ring Sunday at a residence in Paige, Texas, 40 participants were issued citations and the owner of the property is wanted for questioning.
According to a press release from the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, police received a noise complaint from a neighbor about the residence located in the area of 1673 FM 2104 at 11:55 a.m. When officers arrived, deputies found "what appeared to be an active cockfighting ring."
Several people began fleeing on foot into the surrounding area, but deputies were able to detain the remaining individuals. Along with the 40 citations issued, deputies impounded 32 vehicles from the scene.
The owner of the property, 39-year-old Rowdy Fowler, is wanted for questioning in the investigation.
At the scene of the alleged cockfighting ring, deputies seized 130 roosters. Four died as a result of their injuries and the sheriff's office states that a Bastrop County judge ordered that the remaining roosters be destroyed.
