AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested for DWI after he allegedly hit and killed a cyclist in South Austin last month.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, Austin Police Department officers responded to a crash between a car and a bicycle in the 6000 block of East Stassney Lane.
The cyclist was taken to the hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Oct. 10.
The driver of the car, later identified as 26-year-old Abel Martinez, was arrested for DWI.
The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 69th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 74 deaths. On the date of this crash in 2023, 70 fatal crashes resulted in 73 deaths.
The investigation is still ongoing.
