Austin police investigating homicide near Mueller

Details are limited, but police did confirm officers responded to the Urban Villas Apartment Homes on Airport Boulevard.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide near the Mueller neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Officer Austin Zarling said at around 10:16 a.m., officers responded to the Urban Villas Apartment Homes, located at 4411 Airport Blvd., for a shot-stab hotshot call. A person who called 911 said they had found two people with "multiple life-threatening injuries to their bodies."

Zarling said Austin Fire Department crews arrived to the scene prior to APD officers. First responders attempted to provide medical aid to the two victims, a man and a woman, but they were pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 a.m.

The victims have not been identified, pending notification of next of kin. The circumstances of the crime are not clear at this time, but Zarling did say both victims had experienced blunt force trauma. It is not clear if the victims knew each other, nor if APD is looking for a suspect in this case.

Nearby resident Avery Held was shocked to hear about the homicide.

"It's kind of crazy. I mean, I didn't hear anything," Held said. "I don't know when it happened, but I feel like it wasn't that far from where I live. So, that's kind of unnerving."

Zarling said the investigation is in its early stages, but APD believes this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the APD Homicide Unit at 512-477-3588 or contact Capital Area Crime Stoppers online or by calling 512-472-8477.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 31st homicide of 2024.
