APD officer arrested after physical disturbance with woman in New Braunfels

Officer Josh Lugo has been placed on restricted duty, and the Austin Police Department has initiated an administrative investigation.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — An Austin police officer has been arrested and charged with assault bodily injury/family violence following an incident in New Braunfels in September.

According to the City of New Braunfels Police Department, officers were called to the 700 block of Tupelo Tank Drive around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, for a reported disturbance.

Officers arrived and determined there had been a physical disturbance between a man and a woman where the man was the aggressor.

Austin Police Department officer Joshua “Josh” Lugo, 41, of New Braunfels was taken into custody without incident, police said. He was taken to the Guadalupe County Jail and charged.

APD said it is aware of the arrest and is cooperating with the New Braunfels Police Department as it investigates.

Per APD protocol, the department has placed Lugo on restricted duty and APD has initiated an administrative investigation into the incident.

“No further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” APD said in a statement on Tuesday.
