Austin police respond to 2 separate SWAT incidents overnight

One incident occurred at an apartment on East Stassney Lane and the other happened at a hotel room on Center Lake Drive.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police responded to two separate SWAT situations overnight.

At around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, police got a call from a woman on East Stassney Lane who said her boyfriend had assaulted her.

Officers arrived at the scene a few minutes later and found a man had barricaded himself inside an apartment with a gun. SWAT officers were called in to assist.

At around 2:45 a.m. Thursday, SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the man dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. It is not clear at this time exactly when he died.

The woman who called for help is safe, according to police.

Meanwhile, at around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call came in about a domestic disturbance at the Homewood Suites hotel on Center Lake Drive. The caller told police there were guns and knives inside a hotel room.

Officers arrived on the scene at 1:51 a.m., and the suspect refused to open the door to the room. About 20 minutes later, officers backed away from the room.

Police said at 2:22 a.m., someone else called from the same hotel room, asking for help from the police and saying the suspect was armed and wouldn't let them leave.

At 2:30 a.m., police made contact with the suspect, who threatened their family and the officers. SWAT was called in to assist, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Police believe there were seven people in the hotel room. No injuries were reported.
