Austin police investigating after skeletal remains discovered on West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt

Police were notified of a potential murder that occurred months prior in the greenbelt in South Austin.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) Homicide Unit is investigating after skeletal remains were found at the West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt in the 1100 block of South Sixth Street in South Austin.

According to APD, the Homicide Unit received multiple tips in late November of a murder that had occurred in the area months prior. Tipsters said the victim had been buried somewhere in the area.

Detectives and crime scene specialists executed a K9 search of the area on Nov. 29, and located skeletal remains that matched the description provided by tipsters.

The remains were collected by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office with assistance from the Texas State Anthropology Department. An autopsy performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed injuries typically seen in a homicide.

The person has not been identified at this time.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact APD's Homicide Unit at 512-974-TIPS or email homicide.apd@austintexas.gov. Tips may be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

This is being investigated as Austin's 65th homicide of 2023.
